Activator

Influencing

“The secret to getting ahead is getting started.” ― Mark Twain

"When can we start?”  is is a recurring question for Activators.

I thrive on movement. Things really are always happening too slowly for me. Some would call me impulsive and reactive but I see myself as expressive, energetic and influential. I love starting stuff and then keeping the momentum where needed. I have so much energy, that focusing on one thing at a time is boring, so I like to have many pots on the stove at once. If I don't I can become easily distracted by something else that needs energising. I love the challenge of keeping a whole lot of things going at the same time. I am a force to be reckoned with; I really crave moments where that full force can be applied to create movement where others have failed.

MY unique TALENT

MY SUPerpower

Urgency and energy

MY instinctive Ability

You have a relentless drive to keep moving. As a result you can generate exceptional amounts of energy in any given moment. In fact out of all the Signature themes, Activator can generate the most energy and for the longest period of time.

The drive I naturally bring

You are immensely powerful. Your energy can be used to start things, maintain momentum, persuade others or drive action. It will be very important to ensure that your energy is applied in the right dose and in the right direction.

What can I naturally create?

You motivate people to action - you are highly persuasive even when people do not want to do something. Your energy is contagious and can be extremely engaging as you shift people urgently towards an outcome. You inspire others that anything is possible as long as they keep moving.

MANAGING MY EXPECTATIONS

I like...

To keep myself physically moving, multitasking, motivating others into action;

being free to be able to drive action as and when I feel like it.

I connect easily to people who...

Have a positive, action oriented attitude and appreciate getting things done quickly;

can finish what I start;

respond positively to my drive and are not intimidated by the force with which I do things.

I am NOT known for...

Being patient, sitting still for any length of time, waiting for a decision to be made, focusing on the detail for the sake of it, or being pragmatic.

I get frustrated or distressed when...

I have to be at a desk for any length of time;

things take too long;

I feel pinned down or restricted in any way;

having to do one thing at a time;

working with low energy people and/or I am in negative, passive, inactive environments.

I can be perceived by some people as...

Being impatient, impulsive; forceful, emotionally unstable, distracted (and bored) and messy with a poor ability to finish what I start.

how best to work with me:

I move quickly and I like doing many things at once so if you are in the way you might get rapidly moved aside if you are not adding value.

Give me the responsibility for initiating and ensuring that there is the proper momentum in the project.

Assign me to a team that is bogged down and talks more than it performs.

Cut to the chase - keep it short and to the point.

I aim for speed so keep up if you can.

I work things out as I go so my decisions are seldom final.

BEING MORE EFFECTIVE

know this:

You naturally see how ideas can be turned into action.

You want to do things now, rather than simply talk about them.

You can be very powerful in making things happen and getting people to take action.

Other people may criticize you for being impatient and seeming to 'run over' them.

You may occasionally struggle with people you feel are trying to control you.

try this:

Be the catalyst. Think it through, and then get going.

Your drive to make things happen can be the push that many groups need to move from discussion to action. Make it your role in meetings to ask for action items before the group dismisses.

Seek work in which you can make your own decisions and act upon them. In particular, look for start-up or turn-around situations.

When insights or revelations occur, record them so you can act on them at the proper time.

When you feel the itch to make a move, pause for a moment to ask yourself why you want action. If you can articulate that to others, they are more likely to get behind you.

Recognize that your 'pushiness' may sometimes intimidate others.

Facing your personal challenge:

Your own energy levels are key. What goes up, comes down, so you have to be very aware about what drains your energy and what refills your tank. Remember that when you are down you will still influence those around you. Make the management of this a priority.

Watch out for: Being impatient where time is needed.

Key question(s)

When is being impatient not a good thing? How much energy is enough?
