Adaptability

Relationship Building

“We're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take time to enjoy where we are.” ― Bill Watterson

People with strong Adaptability talents live in the moment.

I may well look disinterested or disengaged but in reality I just enjoy being present and watching. Each moment of life intrigues me and I believe that life is about coming along for the ride. There is nothing within me that wants to influence or change the direction when I do this. I just want to be part of something, with someone, so I literally am coming along to share in the experience. I have no agenda. As a result other people's emotions and stress don't really bother me, as I observe but don't engage.

MY unique TALENT

MY SUPerpower

Easy going

MY instinctive Ability

Adaptability describes the instinctive ability to co-exist amicably with others in any given situation without any expectation.

The drive I naturally bring

You bring an emotional calmness to everyone around you simply because you are largely inert to the impact of the circumstances that are happening around you. You bring an emotional centredness, especially in circumstances that would otherwise frighten or intimidate others.

What can I naturally create?

You inadvertently encourage others to breathe, and to pay attention to the now. You create an appreciation for the moment and for the total acceptance of others.

MANAGING MY EXPECTATIONS

I like...

To be easy going and take things in my stride;

to live for the now, and share moments with others;

to go with the flow and work life out as it happens;

to travel and experience a whole lot of moments with different people.

I connect easily to people who...

Can appreciate and value sharing moments;

who accept me for who I am and place no conditions.

I am NOT known for...

Appearing driven or motivated or getting easily upset about things.

I get frustrated or distressed when...

People I am with cannot appreciate the now;

tell me that I am not driven enough or that I am lazy.

I can be perceived by some people as...

Not caring and being disengaged;

not having direction;

being lazy.

how best to work with me:

I am easy going and relaxed so I can work with almost anyone - you might just get frustrated with me.

Give me stuff to do but keep in close contact while I do it - preferably physically nearby.

I enjoy knowing that who I am matters to other people.

BEING MORE EFFECTIVE

know this:

In many ways, you modify yourself to meet the demands of your environment.

You easily adjust to many things all day long because you naturally live in the moment.

You create the future out of the choices you make right now, one choice at a time.

Your 'go with the flow' attitude may seem like irresponsibility to those who prefer structure, direction or predictability. They may get irritated with what they perceive to be sloppiness or carelessness.

Adaptability talents are valuable because they allow you to keep moving forward when the unexpected happens. You can press ahead in a world of unknowns and seemingly unfair treatment when others would give up. You can deal with everything from injustices to crises and still find a way to make progress.

try this:

React immediately to the immediate - be a positive force for change.

Your ability to take things in stride means that you can be a calm and reassuring influence on people who don't handle change well. Use your exceptional ability to handle stress by making yourself available to those who need your perspective.

During times when the pressure is on, help your colleagues find productive ways to relieve stress and therefore make progress. You can be the spark that 'unfreezes' them.

Never apologize for your spontaneity. Instead, help others realize how many experiences might be missed if you don't seize the moment now. Avoid roles that demand structure and predictability. These roles will quickly frustrate you, make you feel inadequate, and stifle your independence.

Look to others for planning. People who are strong in themes such as Focus, Strategic, or Belief can help you shape your long-term goals, leaving you to excel at dealing with day-to-day variations.

Facing your personal challenge:

You have a tendency to drift through life. As such, you  might well find yourself in a place that is actually not productive for you. Use your other dominant themes to hold yourself more accountable.

Watch out for: How your other signature themes are feeling and responding.
