Deliberative

Executing

“Not taking risks one doesn't understand is often the best form of risk management.” ― Raghuram G. Rajan

People with strong Deliberative talents are careful and vigilant.

Making a mistake is not within my nature. Ever. In fact, I simply cannot tolerate that a mistake was made in the first place; it could only have happened because of poor planning. I am therefore rigorous and careful in my assessment of what my next move will be. Every step I take is calculated. I focus on identifying any risk factors that are most likely to impact the outcome negatively. I then seek to establish how best to control these risk factors in a way that will successfully inhibit their impact on achieving the result. Once I can guarantee that these factors can be controlled, only then will I proceed.

MY unique TALENT

MY SUPerpower

Risk Management

MY instinctive Ability

Deliberative is the natural ability to be able to recognise what could go wrong in the execution of a task.

The drive I naturally bring

People with strong Deliberative talents bring a thorough and conscientious approach to their endeavors. They have the ability to reduce risk and prevent problems through a natural, instinctive anticipation about what could go wrong in each circumstance and what can be done about it. As a result, they tend to make outstanding decisions.

What can I naturally create?

You create safety and security for others. On your watch, nothing will go wrong. You have an ability to create outcomes that are definite.

MANAGING MY EXPECTATIONS

I like...

Managing an outcome precisely through the exercise of complete control of the factors that could go wrong;

to comprehensively manage all threats to an outcome;

to be deliberate (methodical and logical) in all I do;

to be conservative;

to be in the command seat;

being alone.

I connect easily to people who...

Take extreme care in everything they do (are not reckless);

Are not risky in any way.

I am NOT known for...

Rushing into the unknown;

being expressive or emotional;

trusting others easily;

handing out compliments.

I get frustrated or distressed when...

I cannot control my environment the way I would prefer;

I feel forced into rushing to get things done;

having to move ahead without having all the factors.

I can be perceived by some people as...

Being antisocial, stubborn, immovable, slow or quiet.

how best to work with me:

Give me time to first evaluate the task at hand for myself.

I will only get back to you when I am ready so there is no use trying to rush me.

I will only move on something once I am convinced that the outcome can be achieved with certainty and accuracy.

BEING MORE EFFECTIVE

know this:

You take great care as you consider options, thinking through the pros and cons of each alternative.

You prefer to listen to others rather than reveal a lot of information about yourself. Listening is an important way for you to gather the information you need to make a sound decision.

You make very good decisions. In fact, you would change few of them.

Others may become impatient with you as you make your decisions thoughtfully and slowly.

You always think about the risks and what might go wrong. You may be falsely categorized as indecisive when in fact you are making better choices in the long run.

try this:

To go fast and far, first stop, listen and assess; then take action.

You have naturally good judgment and a tendency to question people's actions, so look for opportunities to help others think through their decisions before they act too quickly.

During times of change, consider the advantages of being conservative in your decision making. Be ready to explain these advantages when asked.

You see things that others do not. Whatever your role, take responsibility for helping others think through their decisions. You will be sought as a valuable sounding board.

Your thoughtful approach gives you the foresight you need to make wise decisions. Be sure to set aside some time each day for yourself.

Explain your process of careful decision making. Clarify that you highlight risk in order to take control and reduce it. Don't allow others to misconstrue your Deliberative theme as tentativeness or fear of action.

Facing your personal challenge:

Because you naturally identify risk, you can easily become paralysed by what you see, especially when there are too many variables or you cannot control the variables the way you would prefer. Understanding what you can and cannot control is key, otherwise life will pass you by. Alternatively discover new ways you can control what previously could not be controlled.

Watch out for: Trying to control what genuinely cannot be controlled.
