Focus

Executing

“Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.” —Pablo Picasso

People with strong Focus talents prioritize and then take action.

I am single minded. Nothing excites me more than having an explicit goal to work towards. There needs to be only one goal to aim at at a time and it needs to be as clear as day in my mind. Staying on track and nailing the outcome is a simple process of establishing clear, measurable steps that can be sequentially achieved. I then go into the zone and achieve each step without breaking concentration. This ensures that I don't get distracted but it does also mean that I notice very little else while I am working. This is why I prefer working when it is impossible to be disturbed.

MY unique TALENT

MY SUPerpower

Goal driven

MY instinctive Ability

You have a natural ability to focus your concentration on the specific attainment of a task, while ensuring that nothing bumps you off course as you attain it.

The drive I naturally bring

You bring a focused approach to all you do. In your mind you can only ever pursue one thing at a time. Whatever the outcome, it needs to be specific, with a deadline. It also needs to be broken up into measurable steps to ensure that things stay on track.

What can I naturally create?

While others start to wander down divergent avenues, you stay on the main road. You help others avoid time-consuming distractions and keep everyone on point. You ensure everyone remains focused on the end point. To achieve this, you create an implementation plan, and in so doing, equip people with a specific method with which they can achieve the goal.

MANAGING MY EXPECTATIONS

I like...

To have specific, clearly defined goal to work towards, every day;

working towards big, aspirational goals;

having clarity as to the steps that are needed to attain a goal within a given time period;

being left alone to concentrate on the task at hand without distractions or interruptions.

I connect easily to people who...

Are ambitious and goal driven;

understand how to be highly productive and effective;

can simply get the job done;

appreciate silence when working.

I am NOT known for...

Giving up, ever;

resting - until the goal has been attained;

not having a plan;

enjoying distractions when in 'the zone'.

I get frustrated or distressed when...

There is indecision about what needs to be achieved;

the endpoint keeps changing before you have a chance to get there;

I cannot get into the 'zone' for whatever reason;

I get interrupted when working or have my concentration regularly broken.

I can be perceived by some people as...

Single minded to the extent that I do not care about others;

tenacious to the extent that I may be stubborn;

driven to the extent that I am not tolerant of weakness.

how best to work with me:

Give me a clear, aspirational, macro goal to work towards and then give me smaller, weekly and daily goals that will lead towards the achievement of the macro goal.

Ensure that all my tasks are aligned to each other, and to a specific end goal.

Allow me to work on one thing at a time and get it done properly before I work on something else.

Give me clear incentives to work towards that translate to greater wealth and success.

BEING MORE EFFECTIVE

know this:

You are exceptional in the amount and accuracy of what you can achieve if you allow yourself the time to get into 'the zone', and stay there, without interruptions.

Your concentration in the zone is intense. You may not hear people when they speak to you, so help them understand this and the benefit it offers.

You derive enormous satisfaction from reaching a stated goal that you've been working towards. Being distracted or forced to change direction before reaching it will frustrate you.

When you've reached a goal, or spent time in an intensive work period, you may need to rest and re-energise for a short while before you get stuck into the next thing. Work towards making this pattern a part of your life.

try this:

Help those around you keep their eyes on the prize.

Your greatest worth as a team member might be to help others set goals. When you work on group projects, take responsibility for summarizing what was decided, define when these decisions will be acted upon, and set a date when the group will reconvene.

When you set goals, discipline yourself to attach realistic timelines and measurements. These will provide regular proof of your progress.

Write down your goals and refer to them often. You will feel more in control of your life this way.

Stretch your goal-setting abilities beyond work. If you find yourself becoming too focused on work goals, set goals regarding your personal life as well. These goals will give weight to your personal priorities and help restore balance in your life.

Allow others to think, act, and talk less efficiently than you do. Sometimes their 'detours' will lead to discoveries and delights.

Facing your personal challenge:

Make sure that you set the right goals to work towards. There is no point in pursuing something that does not have greater meaning for you. It is easy for you to have your head down, heading in the wrong direction. Remember to look up.

Be aware that your best working times are when there are no environmental distractions of any sort. This may be late at night or early in the morning. When important stuff needs to be completed, ensure that you find a space that you can concentrate in.

Watch out for:

Refusing to give up in something (even though you should) simply because you have to hit the goal.
