Strategic Thinking

“I may be surprised. But I don't think I will be.” ― Andrew Strauss

People with strong Strategic talents have the ability to sort through the clutter and find the best route.

Nothing makes me happier than the words "I love it when a plan comes together". Being able to find my way through chaos and unpredictable events and still get to my destination in the shortest possible time is something I always pride myself in. To do this, I am always scanning the horizon and using my intuition to anticipate what is most likely to happen next. By having this sense, I can plan accordingly, change direction rapidly and ensure that I find the best route through no matter what happens. This is why I tend to leave things to the last minute and why I can never really tell you the full plan in advance. Things change; I like that.

Key Words : Intuitive, independent, efficient, responsive, anticipating, short cuts, alternative options

MY unique TALENT

MY SUPerpower

Quick Thinking

MY instinctive Ability

You have the natural ability to find the quickest, most efficient route to an outcome by intuitively anticipating and then rapidly avoiding, dynamic obstacles before they happen.

The drive I naturally bring

You bring a relentless desire to find the quickest route to an endpoint. Like a GPS unit you are constantly scanning and then recalculating and have no hesitation in changing the route the moment a shorter route can be found. For you, efficiency gives speed.

What can I naturally create?

You are a pathfinder and a guide in chaos. You create confidence for others, that whatever happens going ahead, you will always find the most effective route through.

MANAGING MY EXPECTATIONS

I like...

Anticipating what is likely to happen next - and being proven right;

seeing the big picture and having a defined bearing (so I don't get lost);

finding the quickest route to an outcome;

challenging the status quo when I sense it is no longer working efficiently enough;

having the freedom to change direction if I feel I need to;

focusing only on the detail that I feel matters in getting to the end point (everything else is just noise).

I connect easily to people who...

Are on the same wavelength;

get things quickly without too much explaining;

who can correctly act on minimal information;

have a sense of direction.

I am NOT known for...

Paying attention to what I believe is irrelevant data;

taking the long route;

enjoying having to explain myself;

being caught out.

I get frustrated or distressed when...

I am stuck and cannot find a way out;

when I have to do repetitive tasks;

I am forced to focus on irrelevant detail;

having to take the long way around;

being told which way to go;

working with people that cannot keep track.

I can be perceived by some people as...

Ignoring important information;

being independent;

being manipulative.

how best to work with me:

Put me in a space where you need to cut through the clutter.

Give me a bearing and the basics that I need to know and then let me work out how to get there.

Give me freedom and space to move with the power to act quickly.

BEING MORE EFFECTIVE

know this:

You know that there is more than one means to an end.

Your ability to see options helps you quickly come up with a Plan B if your first plan doesn’t work. You can quickly pick out the relevant issues and patterns when confronted by problems and complexities.

You have a "What if this happens?" mentality toward work and life. This type of questioning helps you see and prepare for possible future situations.

Some may see your lightning-quick evaluation of what won’t work as overly critical or negative. Because you are able to sort through everything so quickly, people don’t realize that you have considered all the options.

try this:

Ask: "What if?" Then select and strike. Your greatest contribution to a group may be to discover the best path to success. Because you can do this quickly, it may look as if you are 'winging it', but explaining yourself along the way at key moments, even though frustrating for you, will help others understand what you see.

Schedule daily 'quiet time' devoted to consideration of your current goals and strategies. This focused time away from the action might be the environment in which you are best able to think through the options to find the right course of action.

Trust your insights as much as possible. Because you naturally consider options at such a fast pace, even you might not know how you came up with the strategy - but because of your exceptional talents, it will likely be successful.

Find a group that you think does important work and contribute your strategic thinking. You can be a leader with your ideas.

Facing your personal challenge:

Because you enjoy chaos, you will not enjoy structure or any sense of containment. You love your freedom. Your real challenge however, is that you therefore tend to 'work it out as you go' which can have disastrous effects on a result if you miss key detail. This is why it is essential that you pay attention in the beginning to ensure you have identified the correct key factors, because you use these key factors as markers to map your position.

Watch out for: Leaving things until the last minute.
